My Academic Journey

A focus on International Business Studies

My PhD journey began in 2003 when I joined The University of Vaasa in Finland. I embraced the Nordic PhD system, which emphasizes on practical experience, and it was an exciting time filled with travel and learning. I received two important research grants—one from the Finnish Graduate School of International Business through KATAJA and another from The Nordic Research School of International Business NORD-IB  that allowed me to explore international business from a dynamic perspective from the experts of the field.

Between 2003 and 2005, I traveled to partner institutions like Uppsala University, Copenhagen Business School, and the BI Norwegian Bushiness School, where I was able to study with PhD students from all over the Europe. In these two extensive PhD course works from FIGSIB and Nord-IB, I found myself immersed in an intellectual environment, where lively discussions, debates, and the art of presenting and defending ideas were central. This experience not only sharpened my ability to make compelling arguments and build strong narratives but also honed my analytical skills and critical thinking, allowing me to approach problems with a more rigorous and insightful mindset. This immersive experience led to my M.Phil. in 2005, which helped set the stage for the next phase: data collection and dissertation development.

After a few more years of hard work, I defended my PhD in 2009 earning magna cum laude, marking the completion of an incredible journey that shaped my passion for international business and research.
